A brief history of the Orlando Airport

The facility was built during the Second World War and was mainly used by the United States Air Force as a military airbase for quite a long time. In the early 1960s, it was declared a civilian airport and a number of airlines were introduced after an agreement was reached between the United States Air Force and the McCoy Air Force Base. It was then named Orlando Jetport at McCoy. Several improvements were made to make the airport more functional.
In 1976, it gained its current name as well as international airport status. In the year 1978, the airport became a United States Service Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ). In 1979, it was declared a large hub airport by the Federal Aviation Federation (FAA) based on its passenger traffic and flight operations. A new terminal was built and the runways were expanded to open business to numerous airlines. The airport currently serves hundreds of destinations around the world through its several airlines.
